Intrigued by the subtleties revealed through mental and physical repetition, my work explores the differences in perception that arise as something is repeated. The process of creating an image or experience allows us to understand the world around us through a patterned process of learning, remembering and experiencing. All of my work revolves around repetition - of concept, process and imagery - to tease out ideas of differences and similarities. How can something be understood or seen as different and what does it mean to be similar?
I am interested in exploring the process of mental reflection through the use of obsessive, repetitive physical marks. By repeating a motion, I am seeking a connection to how we construct meaning, actualize phenomena and perceive things that are seemingly real but not necessarily tangible or present. When, after numerous repetitious and revisited thoughts or emotions, does clarity present itself? What is the point at which clarity itself is revealed and when is it lost? What is the difference between these moments?
